Why Self-Promotion Feels So Awkward

Most people — especially high performers — have been taught not to brag. Stay humble. Let the work speak for itself. That works great in most professional settings. It works terribly in job interviews, where the whole point is to tell people how good you are.

The Shift That Makes It Easier

Stop thinking of it as bragging and start thinking of it as storytelling. You're not saying 'I'm amazing.' You're saying 'Here's what happened, here's what I did, and here's the result.' The story makes the point without you having to claim anything directly.

Lead With Specifics, Not Superlatives

Don't say 'I'm an exceptional communicator.' Say 'Here's a time I translated a complex project update for a non-technical executive audience and the decision that followed.' The specific example is more compelling than any adjective.

You Earned These Stories

Everything in your Brag Bank happened. You were there. You did the work. Telling those stories isn't arrogance — it's honesty. The people who get the offers are the ones who tell their stories clearly and without apology. You're allowed to be one of them.

Need help getting your stories out? The Brag Bank Deep Dive session is built exactly for this — uncovering and articulating your wins with someone in your corner.
